My methods
All of my images are created
from scratch. While
always based on exhaustive research, my pictures never copy any other image
(photograph or reconstruction).
All viewpoints are created
in my mind’s eye. I can
draw anything, from any angle; however, this is a not a matter of guesswork and
approximation: I carefully calculate each shape within a view, so that what you
see in the picture is what you would have seen in real life.
My human and animal figures
are created, not copied.
I am able to draw a person, horse, dog or any other animal from any angle you
want, in any pose. I can draw a person with any required build.
All lighting is worked out
according to the requirements of a particular image. I can vary a light to suggest a given
season, time of day or weather.
When working with a client, I will firstly carry out extensive
research into the archaeological background, not only of the site in question,
but also into all the peripheral and secondary detail. I will then draw up
preliminary sketches, which I email to the client for initial approval; these
sketches will show the subject in a variety of possible reconstructions, from
different angles.
The next set of
sketches will expand upon the initially approved concepts, showing the subject
in greater detail. All aspects of a picture will be discussed with the client,
so that the client’s wishes are best followed and the client’s vision is
fulfilled.
A definitive sketch
is generally produced, so that the client can sign it off before I create the
final piece. The finished picture is then scanned at high resolution and
supplied digitally to the client, on time and on budget.
