Methodology
All of my pictures and models are heavily researched. It is a matter of personal pride that I check every detail and have a good reason for every aspect of each reconstruction. Academic integrity is of the upmost importance in my work, and I take great pains to ensure that my work is as accurate as possible, reflecting the most up-to-date discoveries and theories.
With my archaeological background, I am well equipped to understand the subject of any commission. I prefer to use primary sources as much as possible (e.g., excavation reports, manuscript illustrations, surviving artefacts). None of my work is based on reconstructions done by other people, because copying the work of others leads to in inherent inaccuracies. My research and analysis is informed by wide-ranging practical knowledge of physiology, engineering principles, crafts and natural processes, as well as human nature. I think through every aspect of a reconstruction, so that I am happy for them to stand up to academic scrutiny.
When working on a commission, I will do extensive sketches, which help with analysis and demonstrate my progress to my client. Only when a client is happy with the whole interpretation and plan will I go ahead and produce the final piece.
